Health insurance? -

i have PPO option with a $1500 deductible with co-insurance (no co-pay). What does co-insurance mean? Would I have to bear the expenses for the 1st $1500 I spend for my health treatment/prevention? You have to pay the first $1500 out of your pocket. Then the insurance company kicks in a portion and helps you pay your bill....that is co-insurance. Usually that is 80 percent insurance pays and 20 percent you pay. There is always an out of pocket max which means that when you are out of pocket a certain amount the insurance kicks in and pays the entire bill. Remember when the deductible goes down the premium goes up. So in order to keep the policy affordable you put a higher deductible. You can offset the deductible by getting an accident and critical illness policy to go with your major medical. That way those policies would actually cover your deductible in case of an accident or critical illness which is 87% of what cause people high medical bills.
