Can hospital make daughter pay for mother's bill after she dies and Medicare has paid their portion? -
Depends. Is the daughter the executor of the mother's estate? OR, did the daughter sign financial responsibility in the hospital? If the daughter agreed to pay anything in the hospital, or if the daughter is being asked to pay as executor of mom's estate, using mom's money, this is fair. But debt is not inheritable, so if mom's estate is broke, and daughter didn't agree to pay anything and didn't sign anything at the hospital, they can't make her pay. Only if the daughter signed papers giving permission for the hospital to care for the mom other wise i would sent the hospital a copy of the death certificate. Yes. This is quite common. Unless you have a supplemnt to medicare, there will be bills not coverted by ins. My father died, Dec 2006, and over the next few months, several bills came in. They were all valid, and they were paid. . They can't make the daughter personally pay but they can make the estate of mother pay. The daughter would be 3 rd Party. The executor of the estate has to pay bill from the estate of the mother.
