Has a life insurance company ever refused to let you surrender your policy? -
My dad has a whole life insurance policy that he's had for years and wants to surrender and get the cash value. The insurance agent has been giving him the runaround and trying to get out of sending him the forms to surrender the policy. Is this typical and what can you do about it? It's unethical. He's not supposed to do that, but he's preserving the sale. Tell this guy, if you don't have the forms in hand by the day after tomorrow, you're filing a complaint with your state insurance commissioner. Then do it. Contact the life insurance company direct by mail and request the forms to surrender the policy. Or, read the surrender terms in the policy, send a written request direct to the insurance company in writing, and send it next day mail signed by the recipient (insurer). If this does not work, contact the Department of Insurance in your state and file a complaint against your insurance agent and your insurance company. I hope that helps! Have him call the company directly and request the cash value. Ask for pertinent papers. Then, he must write them a letter with the same request. This should take care of it. Bypass the agent if you have to. Tell him to stop jerking you around. This is not typical, but the agent gets no pay for this, and will not see acomission again in the future, spo why should he be in a rush to domething he won't get paid for??? Are you sure he wants to do this?? The amount of $$$ he will get is almost certainly less than the amt of insurance the beneficiary will get in the event of dealth. My guess is the agent is hoping he changes his mind. He's got a bad agent. Just deal directly with the insurance company if the agent is worthless. Most agents add value to your insurance policy and are great assistance. Some are not.
