Anyone know how to find a life insurance policy with a company that's no longer in business? -
Contact your state's department of insurance or the national association of insurance commissioners. They will be able to tell you who bought the company, or, if it is in receivership, who the administering company is. Insurance policies do not disappear just because the company goes out of business. The company was probably bought out or merged with another carrier. You should have mentioned the company in your question, I might have had more info. You can try google to see if the company name defaults to the new carrier. Is your agent no longer in business or the actual insurance company? You should read you policy and find out. I'm sure there is a clause somewhere in fine print that tells you what to do. And if all else fails put in a call to your state director of insurance office. you can't file a claim with a business that does not exist!!! Aaron's on the right track, I'll give you their web site.. https://external-apps.naic.org/orphanedp... If the company was bought out, they should be able to help you track it. Good luck
