Are my benefits paid by the employer? -
I was just offered a job with a leading insurance agency and was told that I would be receiving many benefits such as medical and life insurance. This is the first full time job I've had out of college, so this will also be the first time I'll have the chance to get insurance through work. I forgot to ask (and my employer will be out of the office until my second day on the job), but do you think the medical (or life) insurance will be paid by the company? I thought it would because we offer those products, but I thought I'd check to see if anyone else had any info to share. Thanks! It depends on the company. Life insurance benefit is paid for by the employer, but if you buy-up optional life, that is paid by you. Medical insurance - they could pay anywhere from 50% to 100% of the premium, but will probably only apply that to your premium of whatever core medical plan they choose. (you would pay extra for dependents or to go onto a higher cost plan) They will certainly be supplemented by the company (at the very least). Typically, the employee is covered at no (or very low) cost. To add your family may cost more, but it is almost always less than what it would cost an individual to buy family coverage. It will be explained in the first week of your employment when you enroll in benefits. Don't sweat it. Usually life is, but medical you will probably have to contribute to the cost.
