Fitness Insurance for Subcontractors. . . Help!? -

I would like to start a fitness consulting company and hire subcontractors. They would be teaching aerobics at various facilities. What type of insurance would I need for my company and subcontractors? Does each subcontractor need their own liability insurance as well? Is the later necessary? You'll need general liability, professional liability, and likely workers compensation. Even though you're calling them subcontractors and not withholding taxes, if they don't have comp on themselves, you're responsible for the benefits - even if you don't have a policy. Be sure to check, carefully, the IRS rules on subcontractors. Calling employees subs to avoid workers comp and tax issues, doesn't work. Here's a link: http://www.twc.state.tx.us/news/efte/app... The subs will need to have general liability and professional liability as well, unless you're picking up their exposures. No facility is going to allow you - or your employees or subs - on site, without you providing proof of GL coverage, professional liability, workers compensation, and likely auto coverage (owned, hired nonowned). You'll have to talk this out with a local agent. If your subs do NOT have coverage, your coverage will automatically kick in - which means, you have to pay for it, as if they were employees. It will all get added up at your audit. Except, of course, for professional liability, which likely is going to be specifically named who's covered. You need both professional and general liability coverage for your company. Each subcontractor needs their own insurance as well. This is not only to protect themselves but to protect you as well. If they have no insurance the burden of the defense of a claim will fall on you because they are operating under your name. Fortunately, the coverage is not very expensive ranging from $179. to $230. There are several sources of coverage. Rather than send you to a specific site I would suggest you go to the search engine of your choice and type in "fitness trainers liability insurance" you will be presented with several suppliers of liability insurance for fitness professionals. It sounds like a not easy cracking nut, have a look here, you should find something useful for you.http://insurance.online-assistant.info/c...
