Is there a way to determine if someone has insurance. My dad is very ill and I have no idea if he has ins.? -

Ask him or another close relative; if he's too ill to talk you'll have to go thru his desk or wherever he keeps important papers. Ask his doctor; as a close relative they might give you the policy number if he's incapacitated. you could ask him, he would know better than us Look at his checking account register or bank statements to see if a payment goes to an insurance company. If he is on Medicare, he probably has the payment taken out of his Social security check. If he does not have insurance currently, it is too late to get any. * If he has a lawyer you should be speaking to them first and let them know the situation. You should also find out who is executer of the estate and executer for his health incase a major problem arises. Is it medical or life insurance you are inquiring about?. you would probably have to check dads papers and personal belongings, i am sorry your dad is very ill take care. Given privacy laws (carriers can't tell you without a release) you will need to ask around within the family, look through his papers or ask some of his friends at work. Another good idea would be to look at his paycheck/pension and look for deductions coming out. ask If he is unable to tell you, you could assume if he's over 65 he has medicare...go thru his bills paid, check stubs, etc, and see if there are premiums being paid, go thru his papers and see if you can find explanation of benefits sheets, if you have medical power of attorney you can go to his doctor's office and ask. If your Dad is to ill to tell you if he has insurance you could look through his things, such as wallet etc... Or you could try and find out who his family doctor is and call them. Either way if he is in need of medical attention you could take him to the emergency room. Treatment cannot be turned down. Just call the 1800 xxxxxx medicare with his SSN and ask them if they have him on the books. If he is more than 65 I think he qualifies for free medicare plan. http://www.gocheapinsurance.com/
