High voltage by Edison fried my appliances. Does home insurance pay for the replacement cost? -
How are we to know? Do you have replacement cost coverage on your homeowners policy? Do you have a voltage endorsement? The standard homeowners policy doesn't include replacement - you have to pay extra for it. Also, the standard homeowners covers damage from artifically generated electrical currents, but NOT loss to tubes, transistors, or similar electronic components. Which, frankly, are MOST of where your damages are going to be. If you mean a malfunction by the electric utility fried your stuff, you should first put in a claim with the utility. Contact them for the procedures. I've seen it before. It's unlikely that high voltage from the power company fried your appliances. That just doesn't really happen as the power company output is highly regulated. It's more likely that a power surge cause your problems. The surge could have come from lightning, ice storms, a car accident where a power pole was hit, whatever. The simple answer is to call your insurance company, explain what you know, and tell them you'd like to have your appliances replaced. They'll let you know whether the loss is covered or not...
