I work in a hotel...and it doesnt offer insurance... but its "family" of hotels do...? -
I work at a Country Inn and Suites. Technically it is a "Carlson" Family Hotel. My hotel doesn't offer insurance (I really only want Dental Insurance for the time being)... but at the Carlson website... it says that they do. Do I ask my manager... who has already told me they dont offer it... or do I need to go through Carlson? Carlson does have a Contact Me thing on their website... so if needed, I will do it that way. Contact the Human Resources or Benefits Department at Carlson. They will be able to give you specific information regarding who is eligible for their group plan. (Some group plans do have classes of employees, such as employees of subsidiaries, who are excluded from eligibility from the group plan.) You can actually get dental insurance at a good rate by going directly through the insurance company. For instance, Delta Dental offers affordable individuals plans. You might consider that angle as well. It's not going to do any good. If you're a part timer or non-management, they're not going to give it to you. They don't offer "full disclosure" on the website. I don't know of ANY group plan that will let you get dental or vision, without ALSO buying the health part of it. Clearly, you think you need to go to the dentist. Just go, and pay for it out of pocket. Private dental policies cost more than they pay out. I definitely would go through the corporate office of the Carlson Family Hotel chain-if for no other reason than to get "official" word. The problem may be that the chain offers "franchises" so to speak and the hotel you work for is allowed to offer or not offer at its discretion. I'm betting that's the case. The corporate office probably does offer insurance to its employees, but the different hotels are individually owned and they make their own rules. Hope this helps!
