Unemployment benifits? -

I am currently employed full time in NY but want to move to GA. Most jobs in technical field are contract positions. If I become unemployed in GA will I be eligible for unemployment benifits. Not if you're unemployed after a contract ends. Contract work doesn't qualify. And you won't be able to file based on your NY job, if you leave it voluntarily. Most likely no, since you won't be laid off. If you leave / terminate a job at will in most States, you don't qualify for unemployment. You'd probably need to file for unemployment in NY, assuming that is where your agency paid unemployment taxes. However, you probably won't qualify. If you voluntarily leave a job, you generally won't qualify for benefits. However, laws vary by state, including the treatment of contract employees. Unemployment benefits vary from state to state and each has passed laws that pertain to unemployed within their state. You would have to consult with an unemployment office in NY as well as an employment office in GA to ascertain whether you would be entitled to Unemployment Compensation, and from where.
